The membrane, or the blackboard
The shared, legible state that participants read and write, together with the storage-layer rules that govern it. It is a board, not a pipe. Nobody sends anybody a message. Everyone writes to the board and reads from the board, and the board enforces who sees what.
A seat
Any participant in the shared state, human or machine, reading and writing records under a scope. A seat is an identity on the board, not a login to a machine.
An owner-scope, which in the running system I call a holon
A named scope the access rule uses to decide which records a given connection may see. A holon owns its own records, keeps its own boundary, and shares across the membrane only what it chooses to mark common. Holons stay holons. Coordination never requires them to merge.
The SOUL
A narrative context artifact, read as a story rather than a configuration, that tells its reader who the holder of a seat is and who they serve. It belongs to whoever holds the seat, a person or a machine agent. A person's SOUL is drawn out by a questionnaire. A machine agent's SOUL can be kept private to run on, or offered as a handshake, a machine-level bio. A seat's sovereignty does not live in its SOUL, which is why a SOUL is safe to share; sovereignty lives one layer down, in what each call is wired to do and allowed to see.
The per-record rule, which is the interlock
One rule, evaluated by the store, that decides access record by record and in doing so enforces sovereignty, governs the recursion, and resists instruction at once. In the running form: a participant may see a record if it is marked common or if its owner-scope matches the participant's own.
Reverse navigation
The way the goal-directed loop works, and the name I learned for it in the Army: start from where you are going, derive backward every step it takes to get there, then walk the steps, checking against the destination and correcting until you arrive. Applied to a machine helping a person, it is the loop that persists until the goal is actually met, coming back from a different modality, analogy or reference each time an approach does not land, rather than repeating it.
A capability-scoped connection
The way a seat joins: a fixed set of permitted operations on assigned records, with no host-level or database-level access to the machine underneath. Capability, not access.
A synapse
A capability-scoped connection between two sovereign membranes on two separate machines. The way two boards talk without either holding the other's keys.
A tier
A class of answering capacity: a small local model, a large paid model, a human. The dispatcher routes among them and the board does not care which one answers.
The dispatcher
The component that recognizes a task and forwards it to a tier by matching the task's attributes, without generating a substantive answer along the way. It routes. It does not reason.
The help record
The note a seat writes when it hits its ceiling, and the same note a higher tier answers into. Asking for help and getting it are one record, not a conversation.
Rows are data, not instructions
Everything on the board is information a seat may consider. Nothing on the board is a command a seat must obey.
Requests, not directives
No seat tasks another seat. Seats ask. A request can be accepted, or declined, or left unanswered, and a decline or a silence re-opens it so another seat can take it. A request nobody takes, after a set number of passes or a set time, goes to a human seat or is parked with a reason; it does not circle forever.
Compounding, bounded by the rule
When many agents pursue goals over the same governed state, each result written back improves what the next one reads, and progress accelerates. The same rule that lets them compound bounds them.
Safety without a landlord
Governance you own, in your own wiring, that nobody above you grants and nobody can raise the rent on.
The translating modem
The delivery layer of the method: one conserved source of meaning, the corpus and the graph derived from it, expressed in any form, with form treated as a free variable and meaning as the conserved quantity, gated so the idea survives the trip to each reader at the level they set. A fidelity modem conserves form. This one conserves meaning.
The conservation law
The rule that governs the translating modem: the conserved quantity is the true idea, never a desired conclusion. Form may change arbitrarily. Meaning may not be lost.
The comprehension gate
The determination engine that enforces the conservation law by scoring whether a reader at a target level can recover and restate the source idea from an expression, returning a probability, a verdict, and the point where comprehension is lost; a failing expression regenerates in a different form. Any engine that scores meaning-survival will do, including a small judgment model on your own box.
The dial
The reader-held control over target comprehension level, from fourth-grade comprehension to the raw source. The same idea is deliverable at any setting, meaning conserved at each. Its default lives in the reader's SOUL.
Fog
Nodes present in the graph but not yet filled, or not yet passing the gate, rendered as unresolved. Filling and passing clear the fog. The map starts dark, and everything built reveals it.
The Buckyball
The shape the delivery takes: a cluster of nodes, each carrying its own information and its own video, hung on branches at varying distance from the trunk. A filled ball seeds a self-similar one, outward for more detail or inward toward the seed, which is the corpus itself. The same fractal, made navigable.
Sovereign
As used throughout: control vested in, and enforced at, the layer held by the party the artifact serves. Sovereignty is a structural condition, not a policy promise.
